Have you ever put petrol in your diesel Freelander?

Diesel is a lubricant and petrol in diesel acts as a solvent, reducing lubrication. This means a petrol / diesel mix can cause damage to the fuel pumps through metal to metal contact – giving you metal particles in the fuel canister, as seen in the photographs.

The metal particles can then go through the fuel system causing even more damage. On the TD4 engines, because they are common rail engines, if this metal contaminated fuel gets as far as the common rail system you may have to replace the low and high-pressure fuel pumps, injectors, fuel rail, fuel filter and the fuel tank.

If you do realise you have put petrol in your diesel Freelander BEFORE you turn the ignition on at the fuel station, STOP! Turning on the ignition is going to increase your repair bill significantly!
